AW24 Paul Costelloe

Once upon a Time: The Timeless Magic of Paul Costelloe at London Fashion Week

Immersed in the atmosphere of one of my favourite Paul Costelloe shows, I witnessed London Fashion Week unfold with a nostalgic touch as the renowned Irish designer celebrated his 35th year in fashion, presenting his eagerly anticipated Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, titled "Once upon a Time." Seated in the front row, I absorbed every detail, sharing my personal observations in a unique experience where nostalgia and contemporaneity intertwined.

Paul Costelloe, a true lover of women's fashion, brought forth the femininity of women, always emphasizing the cinched waist, one of his distinctive features. The show carried the designer's unique essence and characteristic touch, with puff sleeves exuberantly adding drama and glamour to the runway, revealing Paul's unwavering passion for fashion.

Reflecting Paul's unmistakable style, the show was an authentic expression, enveloping the models in an incredible atmosphere. The current trend extended beyond the clothes to the bags, assuming exaggeratedly large proportions. With a neutral palette, the bags complemented the looks, standing out as prominent accessories on the runway.

Even with the celebration of the 40 years of London Fashion Week, Paul's absence added an emotional layer to the experience. The note from the team, explaining his absence due to illness, emphasized the event's significance, wishing a "happy 40th anniversary" to London Fashion Week.

Costelloe, with over 77 shows throughout his career, is the longest-standing designer at London Fashion Week, starting in 1984. His return to the Royal Horticultural Halls' Lindley Hall in Westminster for the second time expands his legacy.

Timelessness and contemporaneity meet in the oversized proportions of the bags, following the current trend. In the September season, we anticipate Paul's return to the end of the shows, brightening them with his characteristic charisma and energy.

The show was not just a fashion presentation but, as always, a magical experience, conveying passion, details, and dedication. Thus, Paul Costelloe continues to leave a lasting mark on the global fashion industry, standing out as an unparalleled figure in the history of London Fashion Week.
