A Light SS/2025 for Fendi
The Italian brand opened Milan Fashion Week’s runway season with a bang. Fendi kicked off its centennial celebrations, which will take place next year, as the brand was founded in 1925 in Rome, Italy.
With this in mind, Kim Jones, Fendi’s creative director since 2020, drew inspiration from this pivotal decade. Not only was the brand born during this era, but it was also a time of great transformations in fashion—most notably the liberation of women’s bodies. This spirit was palpable in the collection, which featured looser silhouettes, low waists, and an overall sense of lightness.
However, this is not a nostalgic homage to a bygone era, but rather a modern evolution, a forward-looking take on fashion.
As the designer himself stated, “The foundations of how women dress today and the way we think can, in part, be traced back to the 1920s.”
When it comes to lightness, silk, organza, and velvet were some of the key materials in Fendi’s collection. Sheer fabrics were everywhere—one of the many trends for summer 2025. Fringes, intricate embroidery, and fluid designs were also front and center in Jones' vision.
Slip dresses appeared adorned with fringes at times, and layered in others. Meanwhile, micro shorts or hotpants (whichever you prefer to call them) were a recurring feature. Skirts were layered over dresses, and tank tops were transformed into full-fledged dresses. Polo shirts abandoned their sporty roots, emerging in silk or embroidered styles.
For summer 2025, expect bodies to be on full display, with a clever hide-and-reveal game using sheer fabrics—or perhaps we should say, reveal-and-conceal?
A special highlight goes to the accessories. The iconic Baguette bag, created in 1997 by Silvia Venturini Fendi, has grown in size. Yes, the maxi version, dubbed the "MAMMA BAGUETTE," promises to be the next must-have hit!
Known for crafting everyday essentials, Fendi delivered a collection with simple lines that can easily transition between occasions. But don’t mistake simplicity for a lack of style or detail. Fendi’s hallmark of exquisite craftsmanship and traditional hand embroidery shines through. This richness in detail and delicacy is visible in the T-shirts, dresses, and shirts that light up the collection.
The color palette embraced neutral and pastel tones, confirming the trend for summer 2025.
Speaking of the centennial, Fendi brought an emotional moment to the runway with an audio recording of conversations between Silvia Venturini and Anna Fendi, in which they paid tribute to the matriarch and founder of Fendi: Adele Fendi. According to them, Adele loved to surround herself with beauty, making it a lifelong pursuit.
Adele famously compared her five daughters to the fingers on a hand, saying that while each was different, together they complemented one another.
Fendi continues on its path of celebrating feminine beauty, strength, and grace.
A collection that promises to carry us through summer 2025 with elegance and softness. Bravo!
